Ghana's 1.8 million-unit housing deficit and the growth of informal settlements remain major challenges to achieving sustainable urban development.

Deputy Minister for Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs, Rita Naa Odoley Sowah, says addressing the housing gap is critical to fulfilling the goals of the New Urban Agenda.

She made the remarks at the United Nations General Assembly High-Level Political Forum in New York, where global leaders are discussing strategies to promote inclusive and sustainable cities.

The Deputy Minister stressed the need for coordinated efforts to improve housing access, strengthen urban planning and create resilient communities.
