Teacher Unions Protest Omission of 20% Deprived Area Allowance in Budget Review

Teacher Unions in Ghana have expressed disappointment over what they describe as neglect by the Finance Minister in the 2026 Mid-Year Budget Review.

The unions say the budget failed to address concerns they had previously raised, including issues relating to teachers' conditions of service and the 20% deprived area allowance for teachers posted to underserved communities.

They described the omission of the allowance as unfortunate, recalling assurances made in the 2025 Budget.
