Counter-Terrorism Chief Warns CSOs Against Alarmist Statements on Security

The Director of the National Counter-Terrorism Fusion Centre, Major General Timothy Ba-Taa-Banah, has cautioned civil society organisations (CSOs) to exercise restraint in their public commentary on terrorism-related issues.

He warned that alarmist statements and reports could heighten fear and panic among the public, particularly in an already vulnerable environment.

Major General Ba-Taa-Banah said while CSOs play an important role in national discourse, communication on security matters must be responsible, balanced and guided by the need to protect public confidence.

He noted that some organisations, in their bid to remain relevant and competitive, publish statements that may unnecessarily expose communities to anxiety.
