The Ministry of Fisheries and Aquaculture has raised concerns over illegal mining activities around the Cape Three Points Marine Protected Area, warning that pollution from galamsey is posing a growing threat to Ghana's coastal and marine ecosystem.
Speaking at the Ministry's mid-year media engagement, Sector Minister Emelia Arthur described the situation as "unacceptable," saying polluted water from illegal mining is finding its way into the sea and undermining efforts to protect the country's marine resources.
The Ministry says safeguarding Ghana's marine environment remains critical to sustaining fisheries, biodiversity and the livelihoods of coastal communities.
