President John Mahama Warns Africa’s Disease Burden Is Slowing Development

President John Dramani Mahama has raised concerns over the growing burden of disease across Africa, warning that it continues to claim lives and slow the continent's development.

He noted that more than 90 million Africans living with hepatitis B or C remain undiagnosed, while diseases such as malaria and non-communicable diseases continue to pose major public health challenges.

President Mahama made the remarks at the African Union Extraordinary Health Summit, where African leaders adopted a roadmap aimed at ending AIDS and tuberculosis by 2030.

He urged African leaders to strengthen efforts to address the continent's health challenges, stressing the need for Africa to move beyond colonial-era approaches to healthcare and build stronger, sustainable health systems.
