Ghana Card: Government BANS Use of Photocopies for Verification

The Ministry for the Interior has declared biometric verification as the only valid method for verifying Ghana Card holders, warning that the use of photocopies or duplicated cards for identification will be illegal.
The directive forms part of the National Identity Register (Amendment) Regulations, LI 2523, which seeks to strengthen data protection and prevent identity fraud.
Speaking at a press briefing in Accra, Interior Minister Muntaka Mohammed Mubarak cautioned that public and private institutions that fail to comply with the new directive could face sanctions, including financial penalties and suspension of access to the national identification verification system.
