The government says it is intensifying efforts to combat illegal fishing activities as part of measures to protect Ghana's declining fisheries resources.

Minister for Fisheries and Aquaculture, Emelia Arthur, says offenders will face stricter sanctions, while stronger law enforcement and the support of fishing communities will be critical in safeguarding the sector.

The government says protecting Ghana's fisheries is essential to securing the livelihoods of fishing communities and ensuring the sustainability of marine resources.
