Afghanistan floods leave dozens dead and missing as Nuristan faces massive destruction

Flash floods have killed at least 23 people in Afghanistan's mountainous Nuristan province, with more than 100 others still missing. The regional capital, Parun, bore the brunt of the destruction after torrential rain on Monday caused rivers to burst their banks, unleashing mudslides that swept away homes, markets and bridges. Rescue teams continue to dig through debris in search of survivors and bodies. Climate scientists warn that Afghanistan is among the nations most vulnerable to climate change, with deforestation compounding the risks of extreme rainfall in regions like Nuristan.
