Iran warns of wider response after Trump threatens strikes on infrastructure

Iran has responded to US President Donald Trump's latest threats over attacks on vessels in the Strait of Hormuz. Trump warned that any Iranian attack on ships would trigger US strikes on bridges and power plants inside Iran, including near Tehran. Tehran said the warning represents a new escalation and vowed to respond if Iranian civilian infrastructure is targeted. An Iranian military source cited by state media said any US attack on bridges or power plants would lead Iran to expand operations beyond the region and target energy infrastructure linked to US interests. The source also said control and management of the Strait of Hormuz is a sovereign right for Iran and that safe passage depends on coordination with Tehran. The response comes after 11 consecutive nights of US air strikes across several provinces in southern, central and northern Iran, which Iranian officials say have killed more than 50 people and injured more than 500. Most attacks were concentrated in southern Iran as the US seeks to degrade Iran's military, naval and coastal defence capabilities to limit its control over the Strait of Hormuz.
