Banks operating in Ghana wrote off GH¢883.7 million in unpaid loans during the first four months of 2026, according to the latest Domestic Money Banks Income Statement released by the Bank of Ghana.
The figure represents a 35.1% increase compared with the GH¢654.2 million recorded during the same period last year.
The rise reflects the growing value of loans that banks no longer expect to recover, highlighting continued challenges within Ghana's banking sector regarding loan repayment and credit risk management.
