UK PM Burnham tells cabinet: 'We need to be a cost-of-living government' #worldnow

British Prime Minister Andy Burnham convened a cabinet meeting on Tuesday, his second day in office, and told his top ministers that they needed to be a "cost-of-living government." To signal his intent to ease the strain on personal finances, Burnham discussed a policy to remove value-added tax from domestic electricity bills starting October 1. The move is projected to cut roughly 45 pounds from the average annual household bill of 1,862 pounds. During the meeting, Burnham also stressed that strict fiscal discipline would serve as a touchstone for the new government, a message reinforced by new Chancellor of the Exchequer John Healey.
