Chairman Wontumi Jailed: Ken Ashigbey Demands More Arrests Over Illegal Mining

Convener of the Media Coalition Against Galamsey, Dr. Ken Ashigbey, says the conviction of the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi, demonstrates Ghana's commitment to tackling illegal mining.
The High Court in Accra sentenced Chairman Wontumi to 20 years in prison on each of the two counts on which he was convicted in the Akonta Mining illegal mining case.
Speaking to Channel One News, Dr. Ashigbey said the fight against illegal mining must continue, insisting that more kingpins, including those serving in the current government, should also be arrested and prosecuted.
