Houthis announce Red Sea blockade of Saudi shipping

The Iran-backed Houthi group in Yemen has declared its own maritime blockade on Saudi shipping, an escalation that could reignite yet another dormant regional conflict and threaten global oil supplies.

The Houthis, one of Iran's principal allies in the region, have long warned they could take action to block the Bab al Mandab Strait, a chokepoint at the southern end of the Red Sea.

The closure of the strategic waterway could significantly disrupt global trade and further roil oil markets.

Retired major general James "Spider" Marks, CNN's Nic Robertson, CNN's David Goldman and Bloomberg Middle East Geoeconomics lead Dina Esfandiary have more on the implications of a second key shipping lane getting caught up in the Iran conflict.
