Chairman Wontumi Sentenced to 20 Years in Prison Over Akonta Mining Case

The High Court in Accra has sentenced Ashanti Regional NPP Chairman Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi, to 20 years imprisonment with hard labour after finding him guilty in the Akonta Mining illegal mining case.

The court also fined Chairman Wontumi 10,000 penalty units on each of the two counts, while Akonta Mining Limited was fined 15,000 penalty units on each of the two counts.

The sentence, which will run concurrently on two counts, follows the court's ruling that the prosecution proved its case beyond reasonable doubt.
