The sound of heavy rainfall no longer brings hope for residents and farmers at Dzatabu in Tema Community Three. Instead, it signals the threat of flooded homes, destroyed livelihoods and a growing dispute over land they insist was never meant to be sold.
The disputed land forms part of a Ramsar site—a protected wetland designated to conserve biodiversity while serving as a natural buffer against flooding.
Residents allege that portions of the protected wetland have been encroached upon by private developers who now claim ownership and are forcing farmers off lands they have cultivated for decades.
