ECOWAS summit seeks unity as West Africa faces security and political crises

West African leaders have gathered in Sierra Leone for an ECOWAS summit focused on regional security, economic cooperation and the future of the bloc.

The meeting in Lungi brought together eight heads of state, including Guinea's President Mamady Doumbouya, as leaders discussed the “Pact for the Future” aimed at strengthening collaboration across the region.

But divisions remain between ECOWAS and the Sahel nations of Mali, Burkina Faso and Niger, which withdrew from the regional organisation after a series of military coups.
