The arrest of Dennis Miracles Aboagye by the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) has sparked a heated debate on #TheBigIssue with Umaru Sanda Amadu.
Panelists examined the circumstances surrounding the arrest, with differing views on whether EOCO followed due process or mishandled the matter.
Lamtiig Apanga, Deputy CEO of the Gaming Commission, rejected claims that the arrest was a “Rambo class” operation, arguing that arrests can be carried out anywhere and anytime when there is reasonable suspicion of a crime.
Meanwhile, Dr. Joshua Jebuntie Zaato, Senior Lecturer at the Department of Political Science, University of Ghana, criticised EOCO's approach, saying the agency “dropped the ball” and demonstrated incompetence in handling the case.
Larry Dogbey, Editor of The Herald newspaper, expressed concern over rising political tensions, stating that “there is a country to govern” and questioning whether authorities could have handled the matter differently.
John Darko, Member of Parliament for Suame, also weighed in, arguing that EOCO has become a political institution and calling for a higher standard of politics in Ghana.
