Smoke from hundreds of wildfires, primarily burning in Canada, has spread across large parts of the US, triggering unhealthy and hazardous air quality warnings. Cities from the Midwest to the East Coast have urged residents to stay indoors or wear masks, with Detroit, Minneapolis and Chicago among the worst affected.
