President John Dramani Mahama and key government officials have highlighted major initiatives and development plans during a citizens' engagement as part of the #ResettingGhana Tour of the Volta Region.
The President reaffirmed government's commitment to accountability, stating that any appointee found to have abused public trust will face consequences.
He announced plans to:
Establish a pilot training school in Ho to train pilots and aeronautical engineers. Revive the Juapong Textiles Factory and restore it to its former glory. Advance plans for the Keta Port project following key approvals. Complete the UHAS laboratory complex, which he says will become one of the biggest laboratory facilities in West Africa.
Health Minister Kwabena Mintah Akandoh also outlined government's free primary healthcare programme, saying eligible Ghanaians will not need an NHIS card to access the service. He added that the initiative will begin in 150 districts, with expanded CHIPS compounds and plans to clear outstanding arrears owed to health professionals.
Roads Minister Kwame Governs Agbodza and Sports Minister Kofi Adams also shared updates on infrastructure projects, including road developments, the Ghana Medical Trust Fund, and plans to modernise the Ho Sports Stadium to meet CAF standards.
Volta Regional Minister James Gunu further presented an overview of developments and key interventions in the region.
