Energy Minister John Abdulai Jinapor Appeals for Patience as GRIDCo Launches 3-Month Power Project

The Ghana Grid Company Limited (GRIDCo), in collaboration with the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG), will on Monday, July 20, 2026, begin a major three-month project to upgrade the Kumasi–Anwomaso transmission line.

The project is expected to result in temporary power outages across Kumasi and surrounding communities throughout the construction period.

The 1,000-megawatt upgrade will nearly triple the transmission line's current capacity of 364 megawatts, helping to meet the city's growing industrial and residential electricity demand while improving the reliability of the national grid.

Speaking during an inspection of the project site, Minister for Energy and Green Transition Dr. John Abdulai Jinapor appealed to residents to bear with the temporary inconvenience, warning that any further delay in the upgrade could lead to a total collapse of the grid.
