“Politicians Change After Elections” — Justice Atuguba Criticises Disconnect With Citizens

A retired Supreme Court Justice, Justice William Atuguba, has criticised what he describes as a growing disconnect between politicians and citizens after elections.

Speaking at the D.F. Annan Memorial Lecture in Parliament, Justice Atuguba questioned why some elected officials become less accessible once they secure political power.

He said politicians often move closer to ordinary citizens during election campaigns but lose that connection after winning office.

Justice Atuguba noted that candidates go to great lengths to identify with the public during election periods, but their relationship with citizens often changes after elections.
