Regional Tribunals Bill: TUC Warns Against Politicising Ghana’s Justice System

The Trades Union Congress (TUC) has called on government to withdraw the Regional and District Tribunals Bill currently before Parliament, arguing that the proposed legislation is unnecessary and could affect public confidence in Ghana's justice system.

Speaking at a press conference in Accra, TUC Secretary-General Joshua Ansah said the union's position remains that regional tribunals are no longer relevant and should be removed from the 1992 Constitution.

The Attorney-General recently introduced the Bill in Parliament to revive the tribunal system under Article 126 of the Constitution, with proponents arguing that the move will help reduce case backlogs, improve access to justice and strengthen constitutional safeguards.

However, the TUC argues that restoring the tribunals could politicise the justice system and has urged Parliament to reject the proposal while focusing on strengthening existing courts.
