Mahama Ayariga DEFENDS Closed-Door BoG Session, Cites Parliamentary Practice

The Majority Leader, Mahama Ayariga, has defended Parliament's decision to hold the session with the Governor of the Bank of Ghana behind closed doors.

His comments follow criticism from the Minority in Parliament, who accused the Majority Caucus of preventing media coverage of the Governor's responses to questions on the Bank's foreign exchange interventions.

Mr. Ayariga explained that it is standard parliamentary practice for heads of state institutions to appear before the Committee of the Whole to answer questions without media coverage.

The Governor of the Bank of Ghana appeared before Parliament to respond to questions filed by Ofoase-Ayirebi MP Kojo Oppong Nkrumah on forex interventions, the framework guiding them and the amount of foreign exchange injected into the market since January 2025.
