Parliament was marked by heated debates and political exchanges as lawmakers addressed key national issues, including the Bank of Ghana's forex interventions, the proposed SIM re-registration exercise and concerns over parliamentary oversight.
The Minority in Parliament criticised the Majority Caucus for refusing media access to the Governor of the Bank of Ghana's responses to questions filed by Ofoase-Ayirebi MP Kojo Oppong Nkrumah on the source of foreign exchange used for market interventions, the framework guiding those interventions and the total amount of forex injected since January 2025.
The sitting was held in camera, a decision defended by Majority Leader Mahama Ayariga, who said it is standard parliamentary practice for heads of state institutions appearing before the Committee of the Whole to answer questions without media coverage.
The Minority also staged a walkout following the First Deputy Speaker Bernard Ahiafor's decision to disallow supplementary questions from some MPs to the Minister for Communication, Digital Technology and Innovations, Samuel Nartey George, regarding the proposed SIM re-registration exercise.
