Minority WALKS OUT Of Parliament Over SIM Re-registration Questions

The Minority in Parliament staged a walkout in protest against what it described as the First Deputy Speaker Bernard Ahiafor's use of parliamentary rules to frustrate members of the caucus and undermine Parliament's oversight role.

The protest followed the Deputy Speaker's decision to disallow supplementary questions from some Minority MPs to the Minister for Communication, Digital Technology and Innovations, Samuel Nartey George, on the proposed SIM re-registration exercise.

The First Deputy Speaker ruled that the questions contravened the Standing Orders of Parliament.

Addressing journalists after the walkout, Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin explained the caucus' position and raised concerns over the impact of the ruling on Parliament's oversight responsibilities.
