Accountability Series: Lands Minister Reveals Major Forest, Mining and Minerals Sector Updates

The Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah, has announced a historic cabinet decision to revoke Executive Instrument (EI) 144, as amended by EI 234, effectively restoring the Achimota Forest's original status as a forest reserve.
Speaking during the Government Accountability Series, the Minister outlined key interventions in Ghana's land, forestry and mining sectors, including intensified action against illegal mining, reforestation efforts, mining reforms and support for mining communities.
He disclosed that operations against illegal mining in forest reserves have led to the arrest of 258 suspects and the seizure of equipment used for illegal activities.
The Minister also highlighted the progress of the Tree for Life Reforestation Initiative, which has restored thousands of hectares of degraded landscapes, while announcing reforms aimed at improving responsible mining and ensuring communities benefit from Ghana's mineral resources.
He further addressed developments in Ghana's seismic monitoring system, VALCO's industrial transformation agenda, reclamation of mined-out areas, and the role of the Mineral Development Fund in supporting mining communities.
