The Ranking Member on Parliament's Economy and Development Committee, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, has criticised the implementation of the NDC government's 24-Hour Economy programme, questioning whether the flagship policy has delivered the results promised to Ghanaians.
Speaking in Parliament, the former Ofoase-Ayirebi MP argued that despite Parliament approving about GH¢650 billion in public spending over nearly two years, there is no clear evidence of any institution operating under the programme's proposed “one job, three people, three shifts” (1-3-3) model.
He questioned the government's current focus on building 24-hour markets and developing private sector incentives, arguing that infrastructure alone cannot guarantee round-the-clock economic activity without production, demand, and investment.
Mr. Oppong Nkrumah also called for a review of Ghana's industrialisation strategy, urging government to reconsider the One District, One Factory (1D1F) initiative and prioritise policies that create jobs and expand manufacturing.
