Freed American describes life inside Russia’s notorious prison system

American teacher Marc Fogel tells CNN about the three and a half years he spent in the Russian prison system. In June 2022, he was found guilty in a court just outside Moscow of “large-scale drug smuggling” and sentenced to 14 years in a Russian hard labor camp.

In his first national interview since his 2025 release, Fogel describes what he saw and what it was like returning to the US.
