The Vice President of Ghana, Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang, has called for reforms in political financing to safeguard democracy across Africa.

In a speech delivered on her behalf by Deputy Minister of Finance Thomas Nyarko Ampem at the High-Level Regional Convening on the Financialization of Politics in Africa in Accra, she said the increasing cost of politics is limiting the participation of many capable citizens, particularly women and young people.

Professor Naana Jane stressed the need for African countries to promote transparency and accountability in political financing to strengthen democratic governance and create a more inclusive political system.
