GoldBod commits GH¢8.4 million to restore water systems damaged by galamsey

The Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod) has signed a strategic partnership with Ghana Water Limited (GWL) to rehabilitate water infrastructure damaged by illegal mining activities.

Under the agreement, GoldBod will provide GH¢8.4 million to support the first phase of the intervention, which targets severe siltation and environmental degradation at key water treatment facilities.

The initial phase will focus on the Bonsa, Daboase, and Sekyere Hemang water supply systems, three of six identified facilities affected by illegal mining.

Speaking at the signing ceremony, GoldBod Chief Executive Officer Sammy Gyamfi said the project is part of the Board's sustainability agenda, which includes land reclamation, ecological restoration, and the protection of Ghana's natural resources.
