The Ghana Education Service (GES) in the Yendi Municipality has announced the temporary closure of all public and private schools following the passing of the Overlord of Dagbon, Yaa Naa Mahama Abukari II.
The directive, which takes effect until Thursday, July 16, 2026, is to allow students, teachers, and staff to participate in traditional mourning activities honouring the late Dagbon ruler.
Confirming the decision to Channel One News, Muniru Sogri said the closure was reached in consultation with education authorities and the Gbewaa Palace to enable the school community and residents to observe the mourning period.
