Mexico files complaint over deaths of 17 nationals involving ICE agents in US
Mexico's government says it is filing formal complaints with the US Department of Justice over the deaths of 17 Mexican nationals involving ICE agents.
President Claudia Sheinbaum described the killing of Lorenzo Salgado as an “execution” and called for accountability over US immigration enforcement practices.
Salgado, a longtime Houston resident with no criminal record, was killed during an encounter with ICE agents who said he drove toward them. Security footage has raised questions over that account.
The case has increased diplomatic pressure between Mexico and the United States, as families of those killed continue to demand justice.
Al Jazeera's Julia Galiano reports on the legal action, the investigation and the wider debate over immigration enforcement in the US.
