News Night: GJA Demands Action Over Journalist Assault; JoyNews Records 18 Attacks Since 2025

News Night with Kenneth Gyasi and Gemma Appiah on Joy 99.7 FM brings you the day's biggest stories from across Ghana.

The Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) is demanding swift sanctions following the assault on AdomBrands journalist Obrempongba Kwame Owusu while on duty. Fresh JoyNews research also reveals that at least 18 attacks on journalists have been recorded since President John Mahama took office in January 2025, with six separate incidents allegedly involving military personnel, raising renewed concerns over press freedom and the safety of media practitioners.

Also tonight, the nation is mourning the passing of the Overlord of Dagbon, Yaa Naa Abukari Mahama II. Government has paid tribute to his legacy of peacebuilding, reconciliation and traditional leadership, as condolences pour in from across the country.

Meanwhile, days after the National Sanitation Day exercise, heaps of silt and refuse cleared from Accra's drains remain piled in several communities. Residents fear the lingering waste could trigger a public health crisis, including cholera outbreaks. We hear from Zoomlion Ghana Limited and local government authorities on when the debris will finally be removed.
