Qatar's father emir leaves lasting legacy in global sport
Qatar's late Father Emir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani built the country into a global sporting hub, culminating in the historic 2022 FIFA World Cup. His vision drove domestic investment through Aspire Academy and Aspetar hospital, alongside international ventures such as the acquisition of Paris Saint-Germain. Qatar has since hosted the 2006 Asian Games, Formula One and MotoGP events, with further ambitions including the 2027 Basketball World Cup, the 2030 Asian Games, and a possible bid for the 2036 Olympics.
