How Chile’s earthquake engineering could help Venezuela rebuild after deadly quakes

Chile, home to some of the world's most powerful earthquakes, has spent decades refining construction techniques that prevent buildings from collapsing during major seismic events. Engineers say reinforced concrete walls, isolation devices and strict building codes—rather than costly innovation—are key to saving lives. With Venezuela beginning reconstruction after last month's deadly double earthquakes, experts suggest Chile's relatively low-cost model could offer valuable lessons.
