Filipino scholar: The South China Sea is a bridge, not a barrier

On the 10th anniversary of the South China Sea arbitration, CGTN's Yang Xinmeng speaks with Rommel Banlaoi, president of the Philippine Society for International Security Studies, at the China-ASEAN Defense Think Tank Exchange.

Despite a view by some Filipinos that the country should lean toward the US on the South China Sea matter, he upholds the "ASEAN way" of letting regional countries manage their own issues. He describes the sea as a bridge, not a divide, and expresses confidence in concluding the South China Sea Code of Conduct this year.
