President John Dramani Mahama has ordered the desilting of major drains and waterways as part of efforts to improve sanitation and reduce the risk of flooding across the country.

The directive forms part of the ongoing National Clean-Up Exercise, aimed at clearing debris, removing silt from drainage systems, and restoring flood-affected communities following recent flooding.

The exercise is expected to support flood mitigation efforts while promoting responsible waste disposal and cleaner communities.

President Mahama has emphasised the need for sustained sanitation practices beyond the national exercise to ensure long-term environmental protection.
