MOVE SANITATION DAY TO FRIDAYS – Kumasi Mayor Makes Case For New Schedule

The Mayor of Kumasi, Richard Ofori-Agyemang Boadi, is calling for the National Sanitation Day exercise to be moved from the first Saturday to the first Friday of every month.
Speaking to journalists during day one of the ongoing National Sanitation Clean-up Exercise in Kumasi, the Mayor said Friday exercises attract greater participation from organisations, companies, and institutions compared to Saturdays.
He explained that mobilising residents on Saturdays is often difficult because it is not a working day, adding that holding the exercise on Fridays would make it easier for employers to involve their workforce and improve sanitation outcomes.
The Mayor described the current exercise as the best he has supervised since assuming office and disclosed that the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) has begun an enforcement drive to ensure individuals and businesses maintain clean surroundings.
Responding to concerns from some traders about the lack of cleaning tools, Mr. Boadi said the Assembly cannot provide equipment for every trader and urged residents to take responsibility for keeping their communities clean.
