OTI RIVER CANOE DISASTER: Death Toll Rises as Rescue Team Recovers Another Body

A rescue team at Salnaayili in the Nanumba North Municipality has retrieved another body from the Oti River following Tuesday evening's canoe disaster, bringing the number of confirmed deaths to six.

The victims were among seven people returning from a funeral when the canoe they were travelling in capsized on the Oti River near Salnaayili.

Three bodies were initially recovered, while rescue operations continued for the remaining passengers. On Wednesday evening, another body was retrieved, with two people — a woman and a baby — still missing.

Search operations are ongoing as local fishermen, community members, and rescue teams continue efforts to locate the missing victims.
