Beyond the Brooms: Will the National Clean-Up Make a Difference? | Matters Arising

The nationwide cleaning exercise has become more than a response to the recent floods—it's a call for collective responsibility. Declared for July 10 and 11 under the theme "Our Actions, Our Future: Cleaning Ghana After the Floods," the initiative seeks to mobilise citizens, security agencies, local assemblies and public officials to clear choked drains, remove waste from public spaces and reduce the risk of future flooding. With sanitation directly linked to public health and disaster prevention, many believe sustained community participation—not one-off clean-up campaigns—will determine whether Ghana can finally break the cycle of annual floods.
