Strike damages railway bridge in northern Iran

Social media videos posted on Thursday showed damage to the Aq Taqeh Khan railway bridge on the outskirts of Aq Qala in northern Iran's Golestan Province. Reuters said it verified the location by matching the bridge, riverbank, road, fields and the town's relative position with satellite imagery, and verified the date through Iranian state media reports that a bridge near Aq Qala was struck early that day. Fars News Agency said the railway route, which continues through Turkmenistan and Kazakhstan, is an important land link to China and has also been used by Russia for cargo shipments to Iran since late 2025. The agency said repairs to the bridge were expected to be completed quickly.
