Ghanaian socialite Frederick Kumi, popularly known as Abu Trica, has been extradited to the United States to face prosecution over an alleged US$8 million romance fraud scheme.

He departed Accra on a Delta Airlines flight despite last-minute legal efforts by his lawyers to halt the transfer.

Hours before his departure, his lawyer Oliver Barker-Vormawor claimed that Abu Trica had been hospitalised and that his legal team had been denied access to him.

U.S. prosecutors have accused Frederick Kumi of conspiracy to commit wire fraud and conspiracy to commit money laundering in connection with the alleged scheme.
