GTEC CRACKDOWN: Existing Distance Learning Centres To Face Quality Review

The Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC) has placed a temporary freeze on the accreditation of new distance learning centres as part of efforts to strengthen quality assurance in tertiary education.

Speaking at the opening of the 3rd GTEC Annual Summer School at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), Director-General of GTEC, Professor Ahmed Jinapor Abdulai, said the decision will allow the Commission to review existing centres and ensure they meet the required minimum standards.

The Commission says the move is aimed at improving the quality of distance education delivery and ensuring that institutions operating such centres provide acceptable academic standards and learning environments.
