261 ASSEMBLIES ASSESSED: Ghana’s MMDAs Score 56.2% in Financial Management

Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies (MMDAs) have recorded their highest public financial management compliance score since the introduction of the national league table in 2023.

The 2025 assessment of all 261 assemblies recorded a national average score of 56.2 percent, a significant improvement from the 33 percent recorded in 2024.

However, Deputy Executive Director of the Centre for Local Governance Advocacy, Gladys Gillian Naadu Tetteh, says challenges remain, with 41 percent of assemblies still scoring below the 50 percent benchmark.

The assessment highlights progress in financial management at the local government level while pointing to the need for further reforms to strengthen accountability and the efficient use of public resources.
