South Africa's anti-immigration marches spread as protesters demand action on migrants

Anti-immigration marches once confined to South Africa's big cities have spread to rural areas like Umzumbe in KwaZulu-Natal, where organisers demand undocumented foreigners leave and their businesses close. Leaders insist marchers avoid weapons and violence, though some carry sticks and golf clubs. Movement leader Jacinta Ngobese-Zuma denies accusations of xenophobia, saying the campaign targets only those without valid permits. Smaller than the nationwide protests of 30 June, organisers say weekly marches will continue until their demands are met.
