William Troost-Ekong: Morocco can make history as Africa's World Cup hopes continue

Former Nigeria captain William Troost-Ekong joined Al Jazeera in the studio to discuss Morocco's World Cup run and the state of African football. He said Morocco has the capability to beat France in the quarter-finals, noting they look "more fluid" and "dynamic" than the side that reached the semi-finals in Qatar 2022. He added that new stars are being born in this tournament. On the Egypt-Argentina controversy, Troost-Ekong said Egypt "got a good case" and he understands their frustration, but also praised Argentina's late comeback. He called Lionel Messi "the greatest of all time" and described playing against him as "surreal" and "out of this world." Troost-Ekong said African football is in a good place, with nine of the 10 African teams making the knockout stages, calling it "a great step for the continent." He tipped Norway as outsiders but believed England would edge their quarter-final, praising Harry Kane and Jude Bellingham. He said Erling Haaland is "every defender's nightmare." He predicted Morocco could beat France and potentially go all the way to win the tournament.
