China rescuers race to save thousands stranded after Typhoon Maysak floods

Typhoon Maysak has unleashed record rainfall on southern China's Guangxi region, with more than 60 centimetres falling in some areas within days. The deluge has collapsed dams, submerged towns and triggered emergencies at 341 reservoirs operating above flood-limit levels. Rescue teams are using boats, rafts and drones to reach trapped residents, including over 10,000 students stranded in schools in Guigang. Around 50,000 livestock have perished, while an escaped snake farm has added to the region's woes. Authorities now brace for Super Typhoon Bavi, expected to strike China's eastern coast within days.
