Former Chief of Staff Frema Osei-Opare has called on civil society organisations (CSOs) to broaden their anti-corruption efforts by paying greater attention to public institutions and demanding accountability from public servants.

Speaking during the University of Ghana's Time With the Politician programme, she argued that while politicians are often blamed for corruption, the practice is deeply entrenched within public institutions, which are frequently overlooked in accountability campaigns.

Frema Osei-Opare pointed to proceedings of Parliament's Public Accounts Committee (PAC) as evidence that corruption by public servants remains a significant concern.

She urged CSOs not to focus exclusively on political appointees, stressing that corruption within state institutions is equally serious and requires sustained public scrutiny.
