Minority Rejects Tribunal Courts Bill, Warns Against Political Victimisation

The Minority in Parliament has opposed the reintroduction of the tribunal courts system, arguing that it could create opportunities for political abuse and victimisation.

The caucus maintains that Ghana's Fourth Republic judicial structure, which includes district, circuit, magistrate, high courts and appeal courts, should instead be strengthened to improve access to justice and enhance the delivery of judicial services.

Contributing to the debate on the Tribunals Bill, 2026, the Member of Parliament for Damongo, Samuel Jinapor, said reviving the tribunal system could bring back unpleasant memories associated with its past use.

The Minority argued that any reforms to Ghana's justice system must protect judicial independence and prevent institutions from being used to target political opponents.
