Dominic Ayine Defends Tribunal Courts Revival, Promises Safeguards Against Abuse

The Attorney General and Minister for Justice, Dr. Dominic Ayine, has assured that concerns over possible abuses associated with the tribunal system will be addressed if the proposed framework is introduced.

Responding to concerns raised during the debate on the Tribunals Bill, 2026, Dr. Ayine said the operations and procedures of the tribunals will be guided strictly by the provisions of the 1992 Constitution.

He stressed that any excesses linked to the system will be prevented through appropriate safeguards to ensure fairness, accountability and respect for due process.

The assurance comes amid debate in Parliament over the proposed reintroduction of tribunal courts, with the Minority raising concerns about possible political misuse of the system.
